In reading the book of Daniel, I am reminded of how tangible the Lord's favour is on our lives. When we devote ourselves to Him and refuse to bow down to others (people, pressure, fear, "should haves" etc.), we are honoured in Heavenly and Earthly measures. Daniel and his friends remained devoted to God in a foreign place and in return were given a spirit of knowledge and intelligence in academia. Daniel even had bonus insight into dreams and visions (Daniel 1:17). Subsequently, he was promoted by several different kings. This was purely due to the presence of the Holy Spirit on his life to the point where King Darius intended to appoint him over the whole Kingdom (6:3). When we put God ahead of everything else (our own goals and desires for advancement), people
notice and the Lord's blessing is tangibly evident. This glorifies Him and makes Him known to those around us. Its no small caveat to mention that we risk being thrown into the fiery furnace or lions den. But no human test, ploy or device is a match for our God! As we seek him first, all these things will be given to us freely, for we serve a God of abundance and good will toward us.
